Coding is the language of the future, and every girl should learn it.

Reshma Saujani is on a mission to make space for young women in tech. Born in Chicago in 1975, Saujani earned degrees from the University of Illinois, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and Yale Law School. Reshma Saujani spent the early years of her career practicing law in the areas of finance and investments. She then served in New York City government as a deputy public advocate. In 2010, Reshma would become the first Indian-American woman to run for Congress. Although the run would prove to be unsuccessful, it was during campaign visits to high schools that Reshma noticed the lack of girls in computer classes.

This observation led Reshma to start Girls Who Code in 2012. Girls Who Code is a non-profit organization educating and equipping young women with the computing skills to pursue 21st-century opportunities. Since 2012, Girls Who Code has helped over 300,000 girls. In 2019, Girls Who Code was awarded Most Innovative Non-Profit by Fast Company. Reshma’s goal is to see a million women in computer science.

Adding to a long list of accomplishments, Reshma is the author of the international bestseller Brave, Not Perfect, and the New York Times bestseller Girls Who Code: Learn to Code and Change the World. Reshma’s TED talk, “Teach girls, bravery not perfection,” has sparked a worldwide conversation about how we’re raising our girls. She is also the host of the award-winning podcast “Brave, Not Perfect.”
